Ayurveda is India’s primary healthcare system, which is also known as Ayurvedic medicine. It is one of the world’s oldest holistic i.e. whole-body healing systems, which was developed more than 3, ooo years ago by the sages of India. At present it continues to be one of the worlds most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems. Therefore, it is also called as science of life (Ayur=Life, Veda=Science or Knowledge). It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stays vibrant and healthy while realizing their full human potential. So, it is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.

The two main principles of Ayurveda are:

  1. Mind and the body are inextricably connected.
  2. Nothing has more power to heal and transform the body than the mind.

To be free from illness depends upon expanding our own awareness, bringing it into balance, and then extending that balance to the body. So if your mind, body and spirit are in harmony with the Universe then you have good health. If anyone disrupts this balance then you get sick. As Ayurvedic point of view and also in Hindu mythology, it is believed that our whole body is made up of five basic elements found in the Universe like Space, air, fire, water, and earth. These all combine within the human body to form three life forces or energies called doshas. They are Vata dosha (Space and air), Pitta dosha (fire and water) and Kapha dosha (water and earth). They all control how our body works. So a fluctuation on these dosha creates illness within body.

  • Vata Dosha:
    • It is believed that this is one of the most powerful of all three doshas, which controls very basic body functions like how cell divide, controls your mind, breathing, blood flow, heart function and ability to get rid of waste through your intestines.
    • Vata Dosha is affected on disturbance of eating too soon after a meal, grief, fear and staying up too late.
  • If this is your main life force, you are more likely to go through several difficulties like anxiety, heart disease, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and skin problems.
  • Pitta Dosha:
  • Pitta Dosha is more responsible for controlling your digestion, metabolism and certain hormones that are linked to your appetite or hunger.
  • Eating sour or spicy foods and spending too much time in the sun, disrupt your Pitta Dosha.
  • If this is your main life force, you are more likely to go through several difficulties like heart disease, infections, high blood pressure, and Crohn’s disease.
  • Kapha Dosha:
  • Kapha Dosha is more responsible for controlling your muscle growth, body strength and stability, your immune system and weight.
  • Kapha Dosha is affected if disrupt is created by sleeping during the day, eating or drinking things that contain too much salt or water, eating too many sweet foods etc.
  • If this is your main life force, you are more likely to go through several difficulties like asthma, diabetes, nausea after eating, obesity, cancer, and many other breathing disorders.

  • Eat a colorful, flavorful diet:

Eating is one of the most vital bodily functions that help to create a healthy body and mind. A simple way to make sure that you are getting a balanced diet is to include the six Ayurvedic tastes like sweet, salty, sour, pungent, bitter, and astringent in each meal. When you consume all six tastes, you may notice that you feel satisfied with food. Similarly, consuming colored foods also promotes your long and healthy life.   • Get sufficient restful sleep:

So, each individual needs to sleep between six and eight hours to achieve restful sleep each night.
