Vaping: Health Risks and Hazards

Do you have any idea how many youngsters around the globe are vaping? The number is countless. Nowadays, many youngsters are attracted towards vaping and are switching from traditional cigarette to vape. Some people are using it for so-called fashion while most are doing it to quit smoking. But why is vaping trending like crazy among the youngster? The fact that it is less hazardous, easily available and has a wide range of flavor is making it a fashionable trend.

How Vape works?

Vape is an electronic cigarette and comes in a different flavor like berry swirl, cherry, blueberry, menthol, mint chocolate, peach passion and so on. The liquid in vape contains three major component vegetable glycerin(VG)/propylene glycol(PG) base, nicotine, and flavoring. All these are either chemicals or processed ones.

Is It Really Safe?

Well, it’s a known fact that no matter you digest, inhale or just touch certain chemical substance, there will be certain adverse effect on your body for sure. And like cigarette, vaping requires chemical substance, a liquid that can cause severe side effects. Some normal side effects of vaping are:

  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Cough
  • Dry skin
  • Dry eyes
  • Insomnia
  • Bleeding gums
  • Nosebleeds

From normal temporary dizziness to serious health issues here are some of the major vape health risks that you must know.

  • Decrease in Ability to fight infections

When your body is taking healthy things, it will automatically boost up your immune system, helping you to tackle the disease. Smoking vape can be harmful to your genes and reduce the ability of your immune system. A recent study showed that vaping damaged the DNA, claiming it to be potentially as harmful as cigarettes. In comparison to the regular smoker, the regular vapers showed the decrease in immunity. The compounds found in the liquid is the reason vape has a mercaptopurine( a medication that is used in combination with other drugs to treat a type of cancer )effect on your body.

  • Masked formaldehyde

The researchers found that vaping 3 milligrams of liquid at a voltage, mostly used in commercial vapes, produced 14 milligrams of formaldehyde. Hence this fact, that many vaporizers contain more formaldehyde than regular cigarettes increases the cancer risks when inhaled.

  • E-cigarette can burst

As lithium-ion batteries are used in a vape, you may run into a problem if your battery is damaged or put through extreme temperature. A short circuit can burst the battery. Hence, you have to be extremely careful while using vape by making sure your battery doesn’t overheat.

  • Flavor in vape is harmful

The biggest health risk in vape is its chemical flavoring. There are lots of flavors that might be a potential risk if inhaled on a long-term basis. Whereas, in the short term effect, some people may even suffer scratchy or sore throats. If you are smoking cigarettes now, switching to any vapor product is likely to be far safer. But if you are a non-smoker, you should probably not start vaping.

  • Linked to Depression

The people who suffer from depression are mostly the users of the vaping device. It is not that everyone who is involved in vaping does suffer from depression, but they are more likely to suffer from depression than a normal individual.

  • Risk for Pneumonia

Pneumonia is caused by an inflammatory reaction to the presence of organic compounds in the lungs, or fat deposits found in lung tissue. Vaping frequently has a high risk of pneumonia.

  • Chemical in Vape cause ‘Popcorn Lung’

The flavor made up of different chemicals in vape liquid destroys the lungs, resulting in a lung condition known as ‘popcorn lung’. No matter you are purchasing cheap electronic cigarettes or high quality expensive electronic cigarettes, you will suffer the same.

  • Allergies

All e-juices come with a PG/VG base, major cause of vape health risk. Despite the fact, FDA considered PG ‘generally safe’, it can cause a few allergies. On the other hand, VG is derived from vegetables which easily gets digested on your system. So, if you are having a problem with PG e-liquid, switch to VG e-liquid.

  • Canker sores

Though harmful chemical has nothing to do with causing canker sores, it is very essential to keep your e- device clean. Anything you keep inside the mouth should be clean, especially the e-mouth piece which may consist a lot of junk and hence can increase the risk of canker sores.

  • Caffeine sensitivity

People who switch to vaping are most likely to drink more coffee. Maximum use of a vaporizer in early days can cause caffeine sensitivity and mood swings.

In conclusion, vaping is a safer choice than smoking but it’s better to keep in mind that excessive use of vape is not safe either on the long-term basis.
