Different cultures have different creatures that collect and protect riches. However, we have a God! Lord Kuber is also known as Danadipa, the one who donates or gives wealth.
In South East Asian texts, Yakshas are semi divine spirits who protect the nature. They might be friendly in nature or malevolent. Depends upon what kind of natural treasure they are guarding. They could also be mischievous. And our Lord Kubera, is the King of all the Yaksha.
We have always read a story or two about the Gods we have discussed about, let us know the ancient story of Kubera too, shall we?
There was a sage named Vishrava who was married to two women. The First wife was a God who gave birth to Kubera, while the second wife, who was a demon, gave birth to Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Vivishan. According to lineage, Kuber was the rightful ruler of the land of Sri Lanka and he rightfully did so, however, the demon wife of Vishrava did not really like him because all her sons were good friends with Kubera.
She thought that it is very inappropriate for Demons to mingle with Gods because from time immemorial, there has constantly been battles and wars between Gods and Demons, and she thought that it should remain that way. So she called her sons and told them, “The way you are becoming friends with Lord Kubera is causing me pain. He is the ruler and has all the riches in the world while you are just like servants to him, brothers only by name but subjects by natural will. Will you ever do anything to bring yourselves up to his position?”
SO the three brothers set out to the forest in order to perform penance rituals in order to get boons from Gods. And they did! Their penance impressed Lord Brahma and he gave them the boon that they would win over the Kingdom of Lanka. After going back, they attacked Lord Kubera’s Kingdom and drove him out. It was also made clear that anybody who gave refuge to the Defeated King would be slaughtered.
So he took refuge in the Himalayas and there he discovered a temple of Lord Shiva. Although the temple was full of riches, it was very dark and difficult to get it. So Kuber lighted a taper and entered the temple. But Lord Shiva was watching all of this. He blew out Kuber’s taper. Kuber tried to relight it, but Shiva would blow it out again. Kuber would nevertheless try to light it and relight it again. He tried this for a thousand times and Lord Shiva was impressed by this. So he appeared in front of Kuber and being the reckless God that our Lord Shiva is, he granted Kuber the access to the kingdom of the Gods, made him the guardian of the north and also made him the God of Riches.
Kuber is shown as a dwarf with a pot belly and a obviously with a pot of Gold. He is also regarded as Mayuraja or the King of jeweled people. His belly is described to be full of jewels. He is also called Icchavasu, which means that he can manifest wealth at will. Finally, he is also called a friend of Lord Shiva, or Ishasakhi and is shown with a mongoose. The mongoose represents his victory over the Nagas (The serpents) who are the gaurdians of the riches of the earth. For some weird reasons, he also carries a pomegranate with him wherever he goes and sometimes he is also seen with a flask in his hand. The flask is supposed to contain divine alcohol and he is believed to be drunk by it.
As a dwarf with three legs and only eight teeth, he is regarded to be ugly but his Glory is incomparable specially when it comes to Material riches. We also have a legend which say that Kuber lent money to the Gods of the Gods Vishnu when in his marriage with Devi Lakshmi.

Hence the Mantra to gain riches is,
Om Shu Sha Hum Bram where,
SU: Sound of Light
SHA : Sound of Power
HUM : Sound of Happiness
BRAM : Sound of Creation
Om : Sound of Universe
OM is the sound when everything else disappears from your being – no thought, no dream, no projections, no expectations, not even a single ripple – your whole lake of consciousness is simply silent; it has become just a mirror. In those rare moments you hear the sound of silence. It is the most valuable experience because it not only shows a quality of the inner music – it also shows that the inner is full of harmony, joy, blissfulness. All that is implied in the music of OM.
