But there are many calculators out there on the website you can use to know how far you are from pregnant. It’s simple and easy to use. Whatever the website calculator you are using, all will give information about following underneath in general:

  • Days you are in
  • Week you are in
  • Month you are in
  • Trimester you are in etc.

For this, at first, you have to be sure about your pregnancy by using a simple test at home itself. To do so, you can easily buy a pregnancy test from the market and place the test in your urine and wait for the result. Definitely, your heart will start to race.  If you see two red lines (see more than one line) then be sure that you’re pregnant. Now only one question arises in your mind “How Far Along Am I from Pregnant”, which I am going to revel in this article.

Pregnancy is normally calculated from LMP (Last Menstrual Period) which is about two weeks before the baby is actually conceived. So, by the time you find out you’re pregnant, you’re usually already four weeks pregnant, which is when your next period would have been due. So pregnancy would last for an average of 40 weeks, however, 37 to 42 weeks of pregnancy is considered as a full term. After 42 weeks of pregnancy, doctor or midwife usually want labor to get going, so get ready.

Note: Record shows that only 3 to 5% of babies are born on the actual estimated due date, 40% of babies are born before the estimated due date and other 40% of babies are born in the two weeks after, so don’t be panic if in case such things happen in your life as well.

How far along am I, is calculated by using a formula:

Gestational = LMP + Time Passed

There are also many things you need to know like why pregnancy is counted from the Last Menstrual Period, How long Pregnancy is, how many weeks, Months am I etc, which are revealed on brief here.

Why is Pregnancy calculated from the Last Menstrual Period (LMP)?

Historically, the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP) was taken as the date from which pregnancy is counted even though conception occurs about two weeks later. So the LMP formula is good for working out an initial age of the pregnancy. But now ultrasound is more useful and accurate than it to confirm your date and identification of baby.

How long is Pregnancy?

If you don’t remember your last menstrual period for any reason, don’t worry doctor will provide you one date based on ultrasound measurement.  Pregnancy period is about 37 to 40 weeks in general but it can be varying so no need to worry, it’s common among several women.

The terminology you need to know:

EDD: Estimated due date

LMP: Last Menstrual Period; it is the first day of your last period.

Gestational age: It is the age of pregnancy when counted from LMP or two weeks before conception.

Fetal age: It is the age of pregnancy when counted from conception.

How Many Weeks Am I?

Just by counting the recurring first day of your last menstrual period until the present time, you can calculate how many weeks pregnant you are. The number of recurring days you count is the number of weeks you are now.

For Example:

If your last menstrual period started on a Thursday, count one week to the next Wednesday. Now keep counting Thursdays until you reach the present date.

LMP = December 3, 2016

Current Date = February 5, 2017

Calculation:

1st Thursday = December 10, 2016 = 1 Week

2nd Thursday = December 17, 2016 = 2 Weeks

9th Thursday = February 4, 2017 = 9 Weeks

You are 9 Weeks and 1 Day pregnant

How Many Weeks Am I Formula: (LMP + Days Passed Since LMP) / 7

How Many Months Am I?

Just start from the first day of your LMP to calculate how many months pregnant you are.

For Example:

LMP = December 3, 2016

Current Date = February 5, 2017

Calculation:

1st Month = January 3, 2017

2nd Month = February 3, 2017

You are 2 Months and 2 Day pregnant

You must count to the last day of the month if your LMP date falls on a day after the 28th and the numerical day of your LMP is not in the month you are counting.

For Example:

LMP = January 30, 2016

Calculation:

1st Month = February 28, 2017

2th Month = March 30, 2017

And so on….

Note: Pregnancy month is calculated based on 4 weeks, 5 weeks, and a lunar month.

Ultrasound Testing and its importance:

It is the most effective method in modern medical fields to find dating pregnancy. During an ultrasound scan, a baby is measured and the age of pregnancy is estimated by comparing the baby’s size against recorded averages. If any difference occurs between the date of gestational age and ultrasound, then ultrasound date is used more preferably. Since it is more accurate and effective as well.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG):

It is the method of estimating the age of pregnancy by measuring the levels of HCG in the mother’s blood. It results in how far the pregnancy has progressed.

Other Methods of Pregnancy Dating:

There are also many other pregnancy dating methods like measurement of fundal height (size of mother’s belly), an age of baby’s first heart-beat and time when mom first feels baby’s movement.

These are few of techniques used to calculate the age of fetus and development of the baby inside mother’s belly. Sometimes pregnancy can also be calculated into two stages like embryonic and fetal periods or three stages like germinal, embryonic, and fetal periods. You can also use a calculator to find the exact date of labor and be happy being a mother. Definitely, it would be the greatest day of your life being a mother. So always care to your health and baby.
