But it’s better if you get ready for some unexpected changes as you decide to abstain from S-E-X!
5. You Do not Become More Intelligent
Well, it’s a myth that maintaining abstinence increases your intelligence but the reaction is quite opposite. According to a recent study, scientists have claimed that sexual activity is associated with neuron growth in the brain’s hippocampus. Not only this, researchers in Maryland and South Korea concluded that sexual activity in mice and rats improves mental performance and increases neurogenesis (the production of new neurons) in the hippocampus, where long-term memories are formed. So, technically, abstinence has no effect on your intelligence!

4. Menstrual Cramps May Become Worse
Doctor Streicher, a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine states,
“The uterus is a muscle and many women will actually have a uterine contraction when they orgasm, which will cause the blood to expel more quickly, which will in turn decrease menstrual cramps.”
Sex also releases endorphins that help to alleviate the menstrual cramps. This is an unexpected benefit you lose if you’re not having sex!

Doctors and experts have always linked a healthy sex life to cardiovascular health. It also lowers the risk of heart attack and it manages the estrogen and testosterone levels in balance. So if you’re going through a sex drought for years and years, you might be at the risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Nevertheless, extensive research is yet to be done to find out what exactly can happen to your heart if you do not have a sex for a long time.

Another effect of the lack of sex is the increase in stress. Some studies have found that people who haven’t had regular sexual intercourse have higher blood pressure levels in response to stress than people who regularly have sex. As stated earlier, sex releases the calming and happy hormones endorphins that elevate mood, keeping you less stressed.

Recent studies have proven that taking a time off from the intercourse can increase the likelihood of erectile dysfunction in men. When a man performs sexually on a daily basis, they have stable erections and it also reduces the risks of prostate cancer. However, if you abstain from sex for a long time period, you might lose the erection. Erections are key when it comes to preserving male sexual function.
