Eating Meat sounds delicious but did you know there are tons of health hazards of eating meat every day?
I want to tell you some shocking reasons why you should stop eating meat immediately. But before going there, let me share some of my personal experience on how I became a veggie lover from flesh-eating glutton!
Chicken McNuggets, Chicken Wings, Barbeque Grills, Lamb Chops; I could eat all these things in one sitting! My taste buds could not resist the mind-blowing taste of that glorious meat. But with the taste, I could see my waistline increasing. My pressure was shooting up and my cholesterol was going bad. Fortunately, I did not suffer any chronic conditions like diabetes or kidney diseases. My doctor strictly advised me to stop eating meat for about a month. At first, I thought he was joking but when he showed me all the reports, I realized what I was doing to my body and my health.
Meat lovers can relate as, during the first few days, it was getting really hard to control my meat cravings. But as the days and week passed, I started enjoying my vegetarian diet. I felt great, I lost about six pounds and my cholesterol and pressure came under balance. Now, I’m quite a health-freak and I’ve adopted a full-vegetarian (not vegan, I’m still working on that) diet that would best benefit my body.
As I was changing my lifestyle, I researched more about why I should stay vegetarian for the rest of my life and the results I found were quite shocking yet convincing. These reasons helped me to switch to a healthy, happy lifestyle that has the power to not only change yourself but also the world.
So, Here Are 5 Shocking Reasons Why You Should Stop Eating Meat!
5. The global water consumption is pretty high for animal agriculture
Did you know that more than half of the water consumed in the USA is for animal farming? It takes 460 gallons of water to produce just one-quarter pound of hamburger and the fact that it requires 1000 gallons of water just to produces one single gallon of milk is something really concerning. Water crisis is a global threat and if we decrease the demand for meat supply for food, we are half way in saving our planet from water crisis! Well, I would not say, going vegetarian is the only solution but adopting a plant-based diet once in a while will certainly help! So guys, save water, eat less meat!
4. One Year without beef can save 3,432 trees
Research shows that on average it takes about 55 square feet of rainforest to produce one pound of beef. This means that if you go without beef even for a week, you could save around 3,432 trees in a year! WOW! Not only this, all the animal product industry emit more than 2900 million tons of CO2 per year. Also, a study found that eating no beef (yes, just beef) saves 5.5 tons of carbon dioxide emission every year while not using a Prius saves only 1.7 tons of CO2 annually. So it’s better driving a Prius eating a salad, right?
3.No risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer
Meat and meat products are high in cholesterol and saturated fat, both one of the major contributing factors for cardiovascular diseases. Several studies have linked the dietary cholesterol to cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes, America’s top killers. according to a study published by the American Diabetes Association, people who eat high amounts of animal protein are 22 percent more likely to develop diabetes.

Well, that’s not it. This might come as an unpleasant surprise when you find out that the World Health Organization declared processed meat as a “carcinogen”. They released a report stating that processed meat increases the risk of colon or rectum cancer by 18 percent. To add more, several studies from top universities has found that consuming any form of meat- chicken, cows, and other animals promote different forms of cancers in the long run.
Still not convinced?
Meat lacks fiber and other nutrients that have a protective effect against cancer. Meat also contains animal protein, saturated fat, and, in some cases, carcinogenic compounds such as heterocyclic amines (HCA) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), formed during the processing or cooking. These compounds double your risk of developing cancer.
2. Helps to lose weight
Imagine this- You just ate a heavy breakfast with beef and bacon and you went to the gym to sweat on the treadmill. You’re thinking you’ll lose a pound or so in a month, exercising but what if I told you-you can lose that one pound in just one week with the right diet? A vegetarian diet is the ultimate weight-loss diet and studies have proven that veggie lovers are one-third less likely to be obese than the meat-lovers. Hence, ditching meat is an easy life hack to lose weight.
Vegetables are rich in all the vitamins, minerals, fibers and antioxidants that contribute to better metabolism and digestion. You’ll not only feel better but you’ll also look better once you start eating veggies!
1 .Animal agriculture is destroying the Amazon Forest
Amazon, the world’s largest rainforest is suffering the biggest deforestation front in the world. WWF estimates that 27 percent – more than a quarter – of the Amazon biome will be without trees by 2030 if the current rate of deforestation continues. And among many other factors like human settlement, increasing cattle ranching and animal farming is one major factor exacerbating the pressure on the forest. As of now, livestock takes up about 45 percent of earth’s total land! Shocking right?
Well, I don’t think I’ve to list out other reasons to stop eating meat because the fate of our health and our planet is on the hands of meat-lovers. It’s time we make the right decision.
